My name is Robert Petty, and Exactonaut is my studio. It’s rooted in decades of experience in design and fabrication. I emerged into the Bay Area's thriving design, tech, and art scene in the 1990s and then hit my stride in Portland, Oregon, where I collaborate with renowned designers, artists, and musicians to bring their visions to life.

For over 20 years, I grew and directed a bespoke modeling and fabrication department at ZGF Architects, where my team designed and produced a wide range of built environments, from scale models and fine art to industrially crafted spaces and functional artifacts. My portfolio is anchored by works that balance beauty, function and lasting craft.

Exactonaut is my next chapter - Launched in 2025, Exactonaut is a studio node for creative production that collaborates with Portland’s rich ecosystem of resource and know-how to deliver exceptional projects. My studio offers a nimble and effective set of design, project management and fabrication services, always executed with creative precision. Exactonaut can estimate, develop, fabricate and install your project.

ART

Exactonaut is passionate about public facing art. We can create original works, or engineer and build your artistic creation. With his degree in Art Practice at UC Berkeley, Robert is our resident artist. He has worked with many artists over his career and thourouhgly unserstands the fine art making process in wood, metal, composites, resin and textiles.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Exactonaut offers industrial design and prototyping services to help bring your product to market. Through design iteration, successive digital and physical protypes advance to a final, manufacturable article.

HEALTHCARE

Be it public facing waiting and patient rooms or back-of-house staff lounges, Exactonaut offers tested solutions for imaginative and enriching health care environmental graphic and art pieces. We specialize in creative and thoughtful dimensional designs and production in solid surface, wood, metal, structural flet and printed material that is discoverable, tactile and easy to clean - perfect for pediatric applications.
